Real Women Wear Armor

A dear friend of mine (who is geekily awesome despite her hair tossing, unassuming wallflower persona ;)) Cat sent me this comic and website this morning. The comic is hilarious (well it is to me though it might also be my precaffiene inability to think straight doing the laughing). The site, Women Fighters in Reasonable Armor: ladies that actually dress for dealing damage is beyond awesome. It makes me want to get my art on and start doing female characters dressed to suit. Sadly I have 4 boys and a half-orc to draw and paint before I can get anywhere near such a project so instead I will spend my spare time perusing this awesome tumbler site.

The artist behind this is Grace Vibbert (aka Milesent)

I was following the oh so extensive wordpress tag “armor” and I’ll admit that it took a while to remember where I remembered this site from. How come Shamus doesn’t have you in his links list anymore? Am I not supposed to be here?!

Hahaha. Well that is cool. Welcome back. 🙂 Really I am sure it is because he redid the site and I hadn’t been updating this site so he didn’t bother. I go in spurts and having gone to PAX East my brain is focused on all the information I am still processing, so it is coming out here. He has been talking about linking to several of the articles (especially the recent one on game controllers) but is programming and forgets. 🙂

You should take a look at the Dark Age of Camelot characters and armor types for both make and female characters. The used realistic models and didn’t use the half naked female avatar version that many games do. The characters are definitely female, but wear armor based on their class/type (tank/healer/rogue/wizard) and not all based on versions of the armorkini as I like to call it.

Have done– oh ages ago (didn’t it come out like 11 years ago?) es, the armor was awesome, the game was meh (not big on MMO’s) but it is a great testament to what is possible.
